Cindy Sherman is flogging her old clothes for charity

The iconic American artist known for her surreal self-portraits is joining the likes of Kim K and Cate Blanchett by taking part in an upcoming auction.

Within the art and fashion world, Cindy Sherman reigns as the queen of transformation, having done (in essence) what Alexis Stone is doing now way back in the 80s. Famed for her chameleon-like, surreal self-portraits, and renowned for her project Untitled Film Stills, Sherman popped up recently thanks to Jeurgen Teller’s Marc Jacobs campaign, which saw Sherman assume one of her characters alongside stars like FKA Twigs. This time round, Sherman dipping her toes into fashion comes in the form of her partnering with designer reselling platform Resee. In celebration of their tenth birthday, Resee is teaming up with various celebs willing to auction off iconic pieces in aid of Women for Women International, a charity that helps women survivors of war. For this, Sherman’s digging deep into her closet, offering up a Marc Jacobs SS13 gown for auction. Sure, it’s a black and white sequinned number, and sure, it’s estimated at a mere $800 to $1,000… But that’s just pocket change for a slice of fashion history, right?

It’s not just Sherman’s sequins stealing the spotlight either. Kim Kardashian’s tossing in a 1991 leopard Alaïa coat that earned her yet another viral moment when she wore it exactly how it appeared on the runway back in the day: with a matching leopard catsuit. Also on offer is a Chanel suit (you can thank icon Naomi Campbell for that one), an AW97 McQueen dress (cheers Gillian Anderson), and a vintage Saint Laurent coat from the 70s. That one’s previous owner was none other than legendary French actress Catherine Deneuve.

Though Sherman’s gown isn’t dropping until the 30th, you can have a peruse of all the other listings becoming available before that here.
